Too tight tires...what's the deal?Breakfast

Why are some tires so tight you can barely get the first bead over the rim while others (especially some wire beads) are loose enough to mount using only your fingers?

I just had a tire blow while riding, the kevlar strands separated from the carcass and the tube exploded out of the sidewall tear leaving me to call for a ride home, I think it was because this tire was so tight in mounting and the stress surely was too much on the bead.

It was a Hutchinson Carbon Comp, will Hutchinson or JensonUSA warranty my tire?
i feel safer on the tight onesishmael

Ive had really loose ones, I could stick three fingers through underneath, I didnt know any better. Luckily they blew out after I took that first super tight turn down a hill in San Francisco. Got them from the Gvhbikes guy who everyone thinks is sooo nice.
Seems to me they're getting tighter, toocory

I've sort of assumed it's a liability issue--everybody's so sue-happy that the tire companies are making the beads JUST a little tighter, and maybe the rim guys are going JUST a little bigger. I've had more trouble mounting tires the last few years than in all my years of cycling before. I bought a pair of Vittoria mountain bike tires at a closeout sale three or four years ago that I never HAVE been able to get on a bike--they just hang on the wall, and about twice a year I go out and break some more tire levers trying to put them on....
