|I have a Campy Racing Triple. The rest of the components are Daytona, but I'm not sure if the cranks are or not. I'm getting some creaking from pedaling, and although I'm not sure if its the cranks I thought I'd remove them and put some grease in there anyway. I unscrewed the bolts but can't get the crank arms off. They are on there really tight, I tried using a rubber mallet to bang them off, but to no avail.
Is there some trick for removing these cranks? I never had any trouble removing Shimano cranks on my mtb.
Thanks in advance, Derek

|put a pipe or some type of extension over the allen wrench your using. Something to give you more leverage, at least 12 inch. long and it should give you all the torque you need. Just had the same issus and someone here gave me that advice.

|As well as un-screwing the crank bolts you need a special crank extractor tool to get the actual crank armssoff the bottom bracket axle. This screws into the thread on the crank arm and then can be turned to push the crank off the axle. Campag make a tool which should be available from your LBS. You will do more damage than good trying to get the crank arms off without this tool.|

|Make sure that you remove the washer under the bolt, before you use the special puller. The one required for shimano works on campy. It screws into the recess where the bolt is. Othewise take it to the shop for instruction. You can ruin the cranks if you are not familiar with what you are doing.|

|A long pipe that will fit over the crank has always done the trick in my house. It gives that extra bit of leverage needed.|

|Use a crank puller so you don't damaged anything.
Your creaking is probably bottom bracket related. I had an aweful sound coming from the same area on my Chorus group and after trying many different things what finally worked was taking both drive and non-drive side cups off (the drive side may have to be tapped off ) and putting grease (or loctite 242) inside the cups wherer the contact anything. I then installed it and all noises were gone. Try this. I know a few other riders have done this and it worked for them too.
