Look KG281 vs trek OCLV 5500ingLatour

I am actually in to the process of buying a new bike and I hesitate between a used frame Look KG281 with new Dura ace parts and a a completely new Trek 5500.

Does anyone have a recommendation?

Have you test riden both bikes? They will feel quite different! The KG will be much rougher and livelier feeling.... the Trek will be more muted and smooth. Both are good frames but they will feel different so a test ride must be in order.

The one advantage of the 'new' OCLV would be the warrenty issue. The used KG will have none. I'd have to assume the KG would be a fair bit cheaper.... say no more than 0.6x the price of the Trek (including the taxes).

good luck

Why not consider a new 281 or 381 with DA? The price should be competitive with a new 5500 but you may have to mail order the frame from www.totalcycling.com or www.labicicletta.com to get the best price. I have both a 281 with DA and a 5200 with Ultegra. I like the light weight (17 lbs.) of the 281 and it's comfortable compliant ride especially over long distances. The warranty for the Look is only 3 years though. Look also has the new KX model which is several hundred dollars cheaper than the 381 but has larger carbon tubes for robustness.
