I walked in on the segment while my wife was watching the program, I missed the very first part, the cyclist describing the problem. My wife said he rode a $5000 bike.

He was some 40 miles from home, on a beutiful country lane, when out comes the dog, who had been laying, out of site, in the drainage ditch, and due to traffic, the cyclist couldn't dodge the dog. He hit the dog in the shoulder, and he went flying through the air. All in all, a fairly typical dog accident, as reported on various forums on the Internet.

What I found facinating is how the defendants tried to blame the cyclist.

A) he was 40 miles from home and it was his fault, hitting their dog, because their state had 1000's of miles of bike trails and he didn't belong on their road, so far from home. THe hubby actually said it was the cyclist fault for being at the wrong place at the wrong time!

B) The sum of money he wanted for bicycle damage was rediculous, and they had the vet bills for their dog, which they didn't expect him to pay.

C) The dog was tied up and slipped his collar, so it wasn't their fault

D) He must have been going 40 mph when he hit our dog, way too fast to be riding a bike, so it was his fault he hit the dog

E) And the kicker. The wife says "What if I was backing out onto the street and another car hit me, would that be my fault?"

JJ decided for the cyclist, and in response to the last question, "You've got the drill wrong, here *I* ask the questions and *you* give the answers and so far you have gotten them all wrong"
thank the lord, i was begining to think everyone was insane nmishmael

First of all, it IS entertainment. If it's on TV, it's entertainment.

Second, have you ever been to small claims court? The cases on Judge Judy are par for the course. People lie and fabricate stories in almost every case. The ones who don't lie are usually clueless, such as the people in the example that started this thread. All Judge Judy does is call them on it. In the end, only a fool agrees to be on that show without an iron clad case and expects the Judge not to point out the flaws.
Yup, I think she rocks.jtolleson

I agree, I saw this episode awhile back. The guy was real timid and hardly said anything, while the couple just sat there drawing the noose tighter and tighter around their necks everytime they opened their mouths. As hard as it may be to believe they really did say all that stuff. And as usual JJ let the irresponsible a**holes have it. What is it with people not training or keeping their dogs on leashes so that they don't run out into the road. A few months ago had to deal with unpleasantry of someones big ole dog coming out of the yard at us and getting splatted as it crossed the oncoming lane of traffic, right in front of it's owners including the kids (luckily we just heard it rather than saw it since it happened just behind us).
