New or used road bike purchase - Where in Toronto?Eug

Hi. I'm in Toronto.

I'm looking to get a new or possibly used road bike to get myself into shape. (I sat at a desk all winter.) I have a mountain bike but I don't like riding it on the local paved trails (even with my other set of wheels with slicks), and I won't be able to get out to the MTB trails more than 2-3X per month.

Anybody have suggestions for good relatively inexpensive places locally for an intro bike? I'm prepared to spend about $1500 Canadian. I don't want to break the bank, because I can't see myself as a hardcore roadie.

Plus, do you think I need new shoes? I already have a few pairs of MTB shoes and I was considering just putting the same Shimano pedals on the road bike instead of getting standard road pedals and new shoes to save a few bucks.

For what you want to do, an older bike with top of the line components of its day would be a heck of a deal. Ride in style, go Italian. Mtn bike cleats are just fine, I use Times on my road bike.

Silent Sport bikes usually has a bike swap. They're having one later this month, June 22nd to be exact. Check it out here.

Find out what time it starts and get there 1/2 hr -> 1 hr early. It's a mad rush when they open the doors, although you may find a good deal on something.

I ride with mtn bike shoes on my road bike. More affordable than buying 2 pairs of shoes.

Good luck.
Thanks I will look for a used one, including Silent Sports. (nm)Eug
