650 Wheel Question(3 posts)

My wife has a 2000WSD Trek and the wheels that came with the bike are just awful.

Does anybody have any suggestions for a good upgrade. I saw a set of 650 Bontragers (Race Lite) on a Trek bike at the LBS today that look like a possible candidate.

Also, need an online place to buy them, the LBS isn't much help.

Thanks

you could get the Race Lites at www.wisecyclebuys.com, but I don't know if they stock 650c. they're supposed to be not bad.
normally, all the traditionalists will chime in and say that you should get a set of custom-built 'standard' wheels. for once, I would agree with them. the performance of the Race Lites is probably better than a 'standard' wheel, but I couldn't say for sure that it would justify the increased cost. although, what do I know, I have only been on a bike for less than a year. still, you might consider going to www.oddsandendos.com and asking Mike what he can do - his prices are very competitive.
The Bontragers should be OK,elviento

USPS is using a slightly higher end version. Another suggestion is you should keep an eye on the classifieds, 650 wheels are often hard to sell and can be blown out at great prices (saw a set of Rolf Pros for $275 a while back). Good luck!
