|Let's attack "stupid" runners for a change...
Well, just kidding. No offense to runners, but just a little suggestion if anyone happens to be a runner here. From my experience, when runners need to turn, they almost always turn as they look around instead of looking BEFORE turning. This can be very dangerous. It seems they assume everyone is moving at sub 8 mph speeds. Sometimes losing my temper is so tempting.

|Bike lanes or MUT's (yes, I'm sure this will engender many anti-dork-way rants) that begin by purposefully heading in some useful direction only to peter out in a pile of weeds and gravel, with no markers or hope of continuity.
Boulder is a great town to ride in, and there are a lot of useful bike lanes / MUT's; many are quite well-maintained and marked. At times they offer the only safe solution to riding on narrow main throughfares clogged with overly caffeinated yuppies in their Stupid Useless Vehicles. However, (typical of most things Boulder?) quite a few of these promising beginnings go wandering off into irrelevance and apathy. Yesterday's route ended at a Dumpster behind the Jewish Community Center, when I was already running 15 minutes late.

|Fresno has a fantastic bike lane system. Almost every street has them. It also has wonderful flat, smooth sidewalks. 99.9% of runners, bladers, and people pushing strollers are in the bike lanes, though.
Heck, around here, it would be safer to ride on the sidewalks, because no one else uses them! (another thread, I realize)
I thought Boulder was bike Mecca?

|I rode today for a relatively short 32 miles. NO CARS PASSED ME. Not one. This is typical. We have so many little country roads that once joined family farms that make great bike roads. We don't need no stinkin' bike paths! Then, they build little developements back off of these roads and then they bring in the sewer. Bad? No. A brand spankin new ribbon of smooth asphalt. Pardon me whle I gloat.....Had a good ride =)|

|especially compared to my cycling misadventures in the redneck-infested Ohio Valley.
It's just a very Boulder sort of idiosyncrasy; the county diligently paves their little brains out (or spreads crushed stone) until the funding quits on them or they reach the one house / business that has patently refused to grant right-of-way. It makes for a fun and interesting game of urban assault / hunt-the-slipper... unless you are running late.
I'm simply crabby because I'm stuck in a 6x6 box with nothing to do but gaze at my 'cross bike until 4.30 There is actually a major plan underway in Boulder and Broomfield counties to address just this issue.

Pay attention to your surroundings, learn to anticipate the other guy doing something stupid, quit'cher bitchin'... oh and have a nice day. :)
Now lets ALL be careful out there.

Sheesh. What a tool.

|Funny... there isn't a sign saying "Bike and Inline Skate lane"- yet those bladers seem to be everywhere bikes go... and the runners who like to run on the bike path when there is a perfectly good running path 10 feet away... I don't get it.|| |
