wearing out chainrings(3 posts)

wearing out chainringsishmael

I'm planning to run my chain and casette into the ground since I forgot to change my chain and now the casette is too worn and a new chain skips. Will I also now wear my chainrings down thereby ruining all subsequent chains before their time?

And if you thought chains and cassettes were expensive, wait until you start pricing chainrings.

I had the same problem on my rain bike a few years ago, bought a new cassette, new chain and the front chainrings were fine, 10,000 miles since then and no problems. They may be hosed, but then again they may be ok. IME chainrings can take alot more abuse than a cassette before they need replacement.
