Willimantic, CT - what does one do there??RhodyRider

The Rhode Island MS 150 ride stays over in Willimantic this Saturday evening. At ECSU. I've never been to this fair town before - what is fun to do there on a Saturday afternoon/evening? Any tips would be most appreciated. Any good bike shops to patronize? Home-made ice cream stores? Perhaps a brewpub? Movie theater? Interesting food opportunities?

It's only 5 miles or so from Storrs, proud home of the UConn Huskies, which provides a full range of youthful fun and decadence. Willimantic itself looks to me to be tired and post industrial. I almost always drive or ride around it. I haven't looked hard enough for fun there to know whether or not it exists.
You've verified what I'd already heard, so...RhodyRider

...may I re-ask my questions applicable to Storrs, since it is so close? Or will I just find what I'm looking for by touring Storrs? I will have a powerful thirst...a brewpub would be righteous...tell me there is a good one?!? Thanks.

Scotts cyclery is there. The owner is very enthusiastic and loves to chat. They have/had a good selection of road bikes. I havent been there in a while.

Good brewpub/restaurant downtown in the old post office, Willimantic Brewing Co.
The Bidwell Tavern on Rt. 31 (main street) in Coventry (about 5 miles) has great
food and beer on tap, they have about 20-25 different kinds of wings.

Forgot 2 other rest. Main Street Cafe and Victorian Lady, both on
Main Street. Back in college I worked at Scott's Cyclery for a while.
Nice guy, good shop, very friendly.

I've been away from UConn for 5 years, but the Bidwell Tavern in Coventry has like 25 varieties of wings... I $#!+ you not! Not necessarily carbo loaded, but damn yummy. There's also a working drive-in movie theatre on the outskirts... you need a radio, so bring a walkman if you're on your bike :-) UConn might be kind of sleepy this time of year, but you could always go there and ask to fondle our NCAA basketball trophy... yeah huskies!

forgot about the drive in, always fun. I get out to the Bidwell now and
then, and I agree, good wings. I've been away from Uconn for about
5-6 years myself, had a good time there, spent lots of student loan
money at the Bidwell. Hope you get to the Tavern soon.
Great tips, thanks to all! Tailwinds, RR (nm)RhodyRider

Went to a party there once in my "younger wilder" days. Got drunk, met some hot females. may have gotten lucky but I don't remember the exact details. Oh to be young again....
