Lemond Tourmalet vs Trek 2000ChipD

So which one do you think is the better bike/deal?

The Lemond is $999. It has an all Tiagra group and is all steel so it should be more comfortable for moderate rides.

The Trek is $1299 and has an all 105 group and is Aluminum w/ a carbon fork. But I hear the Aluminum is harsher on the back after a while. A guy at a LBS said that the geometry of the fork on the Trek in addition to it being carbon should make it more comfortable. But what about the rear. Is it a rough ride?

Thanks

Trek's aluminum doesn't bother my back. 2.85lb frame... Ultegra/105 mix... Cane Creek headset... Sexy Bontrager Select wheels...
