for the past 6 months i have been looking for a 2000 or 2001 new trek 5200 frame but all the local places are selling them for retail price. they best i could find was a 2000 for $100 off, which being two years old doesnt sound like a good deal. then i started to look on the net and still didnt have any luck. does anyone know of any place that might have a sale on a 5200 frame?

I just picked up a complete 5200 and they knocked off about $100 on it. Now I did get a great discount on all future purchases for one year. I know they are not discounting on the Project One's. If you know what you need and just want a frame I can give you my guys number. Maybe he'll discount and ship to you.

That typically caaries new Trek models that are 1 or 2 years old, ie 2000 or 2001 models. A few months ago they had numerous 5200 frames that they would build up with either ultegra or dura for 1700 to $2000. The shop is called Buselton. They have several locations in SE Pennsylvania. Be ware, they prefer the hard sell method.

There's a shop in Alexandria, Virginia called Spokes Etc. that has a Y2k 5200 Frameset hanging up--I don't know if it's your size but there are three shops in the area by the same name under the same ownership and they may have others somewhere. The shop where I've seen the frame is on Quaker Lane--I don't know the number off the top of my head but you can find it on the net. The best person to talk to is the owner, Jim Strang. I don't know about price, but I do know that when they closed out the 2000 model year 5200s (the bikes) they knocked quite a bit off the retail price, as did other dealers. And you're right that 100 bucks off is not a good deal for a 2000 model, as it's not even the current generation OCLV (not that there's anything wrong with it).
Ebay often has a lot of 5200's for sale (nm)2_cheap

Try http://www.racycles.com. They are in Brooklyn, I have visited the place but haven't bought anything there. Last time I looked on their website they had some closeouts.

I bought a new 2000 Trek 5200 over a year ago for less then $2000. Everthing included.
