|I am new to road riding and I am tired of riding on the paths around the DC area. Can someone recommed a 50-60 mile loop that is a maximum of an hour away from DC? Preferably less crowded roads.

|about rides around D.C. Go to a local store, like a Performance, and see what they have. It's called "Best Bike Trips Around Washington, D.C." or something terribly creative like that. |
I don't usually ride solo on the roads around here. I just think that it's dangerous without a group. Join Potomac Pedalers -- they have lots of good group rides all around.
Once your fitness builds up a bit, you may want to try some of the local racing club rides. Many of them (NCVC, Squadra Coppi, Lanterne Rouge, I'm sure that there are others) have weekend rides where you are welcome to sit in (although they will drop you if you can't cut it. To cut it, you ought to be able to cruise at about 19-22 solo, somewhere in there -- not AVERAGE that, your average will be lower -- but cruise at that).
