I was in Greensboro, NC last week for a wedding and while I was there I hooked up with some group rides sponsored by Cycle d' Oro bike shop. I rode 3 different rides as well as spent some time in the store & I have to say that I wish we had a shop like this in my area. Couple of observations:

1.) All rides were led by shop employees & included at least 2 employees. Shop people were friendly, supportive, enforced etiquette without being obnoxious and generally added to the ride.

2.) In speaking to other riders, all were incredibly loyal to the shop & both it's owner & employees. It struck me that the shop worked hard to build & keep this.

3.) Everyone I rode with had a story about how the shop had helped them either improve or helped them out of a jam.

4.) In visiting the shop itself, I was impressed with the selection (They carried everything from specialized thru colnage, de rosa, pinarello, serotta, waterford, landshark, lightspeed etc) as well as the layout. The mech. portion was busy, professional & well organized as well as staffed with knowledgable & helpful people.

5.) For all you Retro fans, the shop has a wonderful collection of antique bikes both hanging on the walls as well as throughout the shop. I counted at least 30 of these & understaqnd that the owner is a collector.

All in all my impression is that this shop could give lessons on how to encourage riders and run a shop.

What a pleasure.

Check out the pics of some of their customer's bikes. What's with the super-long steerer's? Some of those look like they have 60mm or more of spacers.
