|I've got my big race of the year on June 1st. Went out yesterday and fely like Sh&$. Went to do climbing repeats and couldn't get my heart rate over 165. (Typically between 175-182 for these efforts.) Had a tough time even climbing a hill I regularly do multiple intervals on. I had to limp home whimpering. I rode very hard on Thursday. Off Friday. Pretty hard on Saturday and a recovery ride on Sunday. This is my typical training scedule, a hard day followed by an easy recovery ride the next day. I was hoping to begin tapering down the training volume and upping the intensity over the next two weeks in preperation for the following weekend. But now I'm petrified. I don't feel great. Maybe a cold coming on??? Please NO. What should I do????|

if your hr won't come up, you need a rest. i'm not saying take two weeks or anything, but take two or three days in a row. a very wise, and very fast, pro once told me: :it's not how much you ride, it's how much you don't ride!"
as for the tapering, two weeks is a good rule of thumb, as your fitness probably won't get any better in two weeks.
the week before the race, don't ride hard any later than tuesday or wednesday. you'll need those days to recover.
the last sunday before your race, do a LONG ride. at least three hours. it'll get your legs used to the idea of turning over. riding hard two day out of four is a recipe for tired, overtrained legs. either rest off the bike, or do 60 minute, zero effort rides aroung the neighborhood.
I ride with some other cat 2's and we do the 60 minute rides. the "hour of power"!!
another thing, don't overthink it!
if you go out for a ride and don't feel it, go home!

|Yesterday. Man I felt slow. Like I had never ridden a bike before. Pedalling squares and gasping. Hope to feel better after a 25 minute flat ride today.

|If you feel a cold coming on, this stuff is supposed to give your immune system a boost to help fight it off, so you never get THAT sick.
Heard good things about it, but never tried it.
I've done the ecinacea, vitamin C and Zinc combo with good results tho.
