ugly graphics and trek...legs

is it just me or do treks have the ugliest logos/graphics of any bike in recent history?

I'm not sure if it is an American bike thing (most other US bikes aren't much better, unless it is a boutique bike), or a price point issue- they get mildly better the more money you spend.

I think Trek's logos & graphics are just fine.

Some good one's....
-Serotta
-Klein's graphics
-LOOK

Some bad one's....
-Cervelo
-Cinelli's down-tube & top-tube
-Airborne
-Colnago's graphics, too over-rated.

... you are also against full pro jersey kit, 1 1/8 headtube, paired spoke wheels, or even threadless setup as well?

Well, a full pro jesey kit IS a bit extreme....

Seriously, there IS nothing understated about the Trek logo- it encompasses the entire tube, as does the model number. Most Italian bikes seem to be a bit more subtle. I'm only whining because I happen to have a Trek staring at me right now.

The truth of the matter is, they're not bad looking bikes in terms of design (the OCLV frames look lovely, i think, and the fat downtube of the aluminum frames is kind of cool), and the logo really doesn't detract from the design that much. I'm proud to ride a trek ('96 Team Saturn OCLV) and am pleased that the downtube of my bike displays the name of the company so loudly. I mean, we're not exactly trying for stealth here...what would you see them doing to make it better?
I am sure you already know this as an art director, elviento

but something that looks good close by may look very differently from a distance. Trek's logos are very big and they may seem too loud if you are looking at it in your living room. But out there in a pack at 30mhp, they do serve their purpose.

Have you noticed that Air Jordan shoes started at their Generation IX to focus on the overall effect when seen from a distance, while earlier versions simply looked unclear/messy when seen from a distance? Same reason.

Elviento-- that's exactly what I was trying to say, but you managed to say it better.

proud owner of a garishly-logoed Trek Team Saturn frame.

Although I have seen some nice looking TREKs, I agree that their decals are a bit overdone. However, I like the large Cinelli logos that wrap around the top and downtubes.

Logos/graphic schemes I like:
-- Gios -- it's what I ride, so I must like it
-- Merckx -- nice color combinations and graphics
-- Steelman -- simple but classy design
-- Colnago -- you gotta see them in person to truly appreciate
-- Landshark -- some awesome paint jobs as well as a few misses but I like what they're trying to do
-- Serotta -- lots of nice paint schemes and decal combinations to choose from
-- Bianchi -- celeste green ones, before they started putting yellow and black racing stripes on them
-- Tommasini -- nice classic look. too bad colorado cyclist only imports one color
-- Orbea -- haven't seen one in person, but photos look nice
-- Waterford -- classic look that never goes out of style
-- Dean -- like that multi-color logo

Ones I don't like:
-- TREK -- as noted above
-- Independent Fabrications -- decals look like a ransom note
-- Litespeed -- don't like the yellow and ti color combination, but the Classic looks good with white panel and black logo
-- LOOK -- something missing, too plain -- and this is a French bike?
-- Specialized -- trying to compete with TREK graphics

You can have a custom paint job, upgrade components, personalized phrase 'LETS ROLL'...etc. 30 days from your order. Basically it's a build to order... The logo on the downtube is much less promenent...

I wish it was available when I bought mine...

I think the Specialized are a littl overboard.
