|Elefantino's back on the road! (sort of)||Elefantino|

The Serotta finally is born ... and built. It was finished at the LBS, and I did some final tweaking (great shop; they let me use their tools), and then the shop manager asked me if I wanted to take a spin before he helped me load it onto the car.
My wife, mother, son and daughter were not around to scold me, so ... I RODE!!!
OK, so I only got it up to 16.8 miles an hour in the little parking lot, and it was only two laps that lasted for a total of about a minute and a half, but after 10 months, seven days, eight hours and a few minutes, give or take, off the bike since the first accident, it was absolutely magical.
The grin will take WEEKS to get off my face!!!
Blantant plug: The Serotta is everything it's said to be, and more. I could feel it almost immediately. (My spine, with as much mileage as it has on it, is very attuned.) Here's what's weird: The wheelbase of the Serotta is almost THREE INCHES bigger than the Trek, yet it seems more comfortable, position wise. Go figure. The Campy wheels seem nice. (The rest of the bike is: Campy Chorus headset, Deda Newton bar, Dura-Ace drivetrain, Ultegra brakes, Speedplays, Axial Pros). I think I really scored on this one. And the Trek is already jealous.
Anyhow, it was an incredible rush for yours truly. No, I didn't wear pink. But that will come in time. In the meantime, I bought a 1up and will pound myself back into shape with the 6-pound flywheel. I still have to wait to heal completely for the doc to give me the thumbs-up.
Oh, and by the way: I did get that personalized "Share the Road" license plate after all. It says: "SVN LFT"

This internet thing is amazing. Most of the time it's just silly drivel and if it was gone tomorrow you wouldn't miss it much. But every now and then it can really move you.
So, I must say to hear that some stranger in Florida climbed back on his bike today made me cheer (and tear).
Stay well, get strong.
May it always be 7 left.

|If there is anything better than riding a bicycle, it's riding a bicycle after you haven't ridden for a long time.
...And if there 's anything better than riding a bicycle after not riding for a long time, it's riding a f)cking Serotta after not having ridden for a long time.
Way to go!

|you drop the "sort of." But take it easy please--of course you don't know me and it's your life anyway, but it seems to me that you've been through too much to be other than careful about your recovery.
Nice little testament to the power of imagination by the way--a couple of laps around the parking lot and the Serotta is everything it's said to be? Glad to hear you like it and are psyched. Recover and enjoy.
