All of you people from Minnesota will have to excuse my amazement, but this California and it was 90 degrees just the other day. Guess there's no ride in the forcast today. :(

In Missouri this stuff would hardly get noticed. Here, it's major news. BTW, it's appears to be totally dry already where I am.

No riding tonight.

about two months ago I attended a morning meeting that included a guy who was out from Wisconsin. The night before, we had a moderate earthquake and he was seriously rattled. Nobody else seemed bothered by it. He had a hard time focusing on the subject of the meeting. And before you say he's a wimp, he's a guy who bosses people around on construction projects. He has a shaved head, a huge scar on his head, and goes through 2 to 3 packs of cigarettes per day.

If it's not at least a 4 and you are within 20 miles of the epicenter, an earthquake is about as interesting as a stiff gust of wind. All relative, I suppose.

Maybe he's just nervous and is trying to compensate with a tough guy image.

Personally I find all weather and natural disaster type phenomenon to be interesting and fun. Blizzards, earth quakes, big surf, even launched during a typhon while flying in the Navy once. I love storms and can really relate to the story of John Muir riding a storm out in the top of a tree. Sure it sucks when the tree falls on your house, but it IS interesting. Anything with that much power just fascinates me and if you can figure out a way to ride it, well, you've really got something! It stops being fun when someone gets hurt - like when a kid goes to high on the swing at school or a car wreck.

Around here the golf balls are usually the size of hail ;) A few summers ago we had the hail storm from hell- my car had $2000 in damage (that was barely visible). Many people had their actually cars totalled. It happened during the peak of rush hour. One storm like that costs State Farm far more than a tornado ever would.

Actually I live in MN- and it has been in the 50s. I just returned from a long trip to Norway, where it was substantially warmer (I guess we had snow here just two or three weeks ago). We had the warmest April in years- followed by the coolest May. Go figure? Tonight was beautiful.

Filtersweep,
I rode yesterday morning at 5:30am and it was 36 degrees in Minneapolis. I have to say I'm getting tired of it. I don't think I've climbed off the bike this year and not felt chilled vs hot.
I wish it would warm up.

I HATE HAIL. It's gonna cost me moneyPaulCL

At the end of February, we had a hail storm with golf ball sized hail. It destroyed my roof. So, insurance right???

Insurance says the roof is a $9300 job, but all of my roofing bids are $18,500+. Now, I have to fight with the insurance company. Even in the best of situations, it will cost me my $500 deductible for a new roof! I hate hail.

Other than that...the weather has sucked around here. May 21st and the temp is going down to 33 degrees tonight!! On my normal early Wednesday ride, I'll have to cover up like winter. In MAY! Jeesh. Come on summer....
