Anybody else do the ride this weekend? It was COLD on top of the mountain! I'm guessing it had to be in the 30's.

George Hincapie finished in 4:58.

4:58? Funny, he pulled out of the Housatonic citing "exhaustion." Gee, I wonder why!

The weather must have sucked -- rainy, windy and cold. I was thinking about doing the first 70 miles, Assault on Marion, so I could apply for Mitchell next year. However, my cables broke on my bike mid-week and my bike shop couldn't fix them right away. I was reluctant to sign up in advance because I don't like doing centuries in shitty weather. It's an expensive ride to bail out on if you've registered in advance.
Your cables broke...??? Almost as good asmikebikr

I think about riding Mitchell or Marion every year and something always seems to come up. It's amazing how that always happens, me being such a hill-climbing fool!
Good one...thought that would slip by 'eh? (NM)mikebikr

32 degrees F, and winds around 35 mph on the mountain. It was a painfull ride but worth it. It had a real sence of accomplishment. It gave me a better appreciation of the Pro's conditioning. It took me 8 hours. I saw many people walking or laying by the side of the road. At least it wasnt hailing like last year. I think the oxygen is still trying to get back to my brain.

Here's a list of centuries from the NC Bike Club. There is also a link on that page to a list maintained by the NC Dept of Transportation.

The links page at our club's website- brushymtncyclists.tripod.com -has links to the Blood Sweat and Gears site (Boone, NC in June), the Bridge-to-Bridge site (Lenoir, NC in September), as well as our club's Rides Around Wilkes (held annually in early May). The Blue Ridge Brutal 100 (Augut in Ashe County, NC) is another great ride, but I can't find a website for it. Head for the hills!
