I have realized that i really need to get stronger to be able to keep up in sprints and in flat GP's. The mountains and the timetrails where it's about keeping a good momentum and the shape and condition works fine but my muscels are just to small.
What should a do about it now when im a bit into the season? Is work-out in the gym with weights what i need or could you do effective strength-training on the bike somehow?
Or should a just keep on racing and put some seriuos leg-traning into my schedule ín next winter to build up for next season?
Ride, no sprint into every headwind you can find!!Quack

Hill climbing and headwinds have done wonders for my leg strength over the last 2 years. Where I once used to get dropped in the low 30s in free air, I can now give guys a run at the finish. I tried weights for a while, but figured out that riding hills was more fun than lifting, and nothing gave me more power for cycling than hard cycling. However, I would have to give 70% of the sprint improvement credit to tactics. Knowing when, which gear, and who to follow has allowed me to rely much less on the big muscle energy stores of my legs until the very end.

Good luck!

You seem to be doing everything necessary to get strong: weights to build muscle mass, racing to work the delivery systems. Avoid overtraining! It will level off any gains you make, frustrate you, and make you go deeper into it. Adequate rest and regeneration is absolutely essential to getting stronger or increasing fitness.
