What kind of music does your bike play?AllisonHayes

when you are in a groove? Does the tempo change as you ride?

Is it reggae, rock, punk, heavymetal, classical, jive, hiphop, soul, calypso, salsa, folk, blues, or something else?

Do your different bikes play to a different beat?

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

(Movin' Out - Aerosmith 1973)

We all live on the edge of town
Where we all live ain't a soul around
People start a-comin'
All we do is just a-grin
Said we gotta move out
'Cause the city's movin' in
I said we gotta move out
'Cause the city's movin' in

Tell me who you know
And I'll tell you who, too
Go see my friend and he'll set you free
Tell me what you see and
Mabye I can go too
No one knows the way but mabye me

Nobody knows there
Nobody shows where
Nobody goes where you can find me, ah

Good mornin' glory, Hallelujah to you
What is the story, what's been goin' through ya
Livin' like a king of the fat of the land
Workin' like a dog in a rock n' roll band

Movin', we're gettin' out
Movin', without a doubt
Movin', we're goin' far
We're movin', oh yes we are

Nobody knows there
Nobody shows where
Nobody goes where you can find me
Nobody knows there
Nobody shows where
Nobody goes where you can find me, ah
Oh, Lordy, Lordy, Lordy...

Level with God
And you're in tune with the universe
Talk with yourself
And you'll hear what you wanna know
Gotta rise above
'Cause below it's only gettin' worse
Life in time
Will take you where you wanna go

Where you wanna go, where you wanna go
Where you goin'....

Good mornin' glory, Hallelujah to you
What is the story, what's been goin' through ya

This one works for hill climbing....

House of Pain (VH-'86)(aka: love song to quads in pain)

Say you're gonna leave me cause I only tie you up.
Always love you tender but you only like it rough.
(???) why you're leaving me again.
Gonna pack your bags and leave this house of pain.
Heartaches all around me, how many times we cried.
Said she tried to leave me but her hands were always tied.
If I had it all to do I'd do it just the same.
Gonna fix it so you never leave this house of pain
END

And we need more cycling songs. Freddy Mercury's (Bicycle Race) little ditty about his ambigous sexual preferences (although brilliant) just isn't enough. So, I'm stuck imagining Red Barchetta and I'm in Love with my Car somehow apply to my far less noisy habit. I'm convinced there may be some correlation between the fact that the bike doesn't make a loud, hiddeous sound and the fact that cyclists are often referred to as...well, less than having all their culturally alloted and required macho (according to the un-initiated masses of course). The fact that WE ALL clothespinned multiple hockey cards into our spokes to create sound as kids and that Harley riders get all the dude-props supports this meaningless thesis. Havn't yet applied a feminist analysis to this yet, what did the girls do to to their bikes to make them more, ...hey, wait! Girls didn't put cards in their spokes.....hmm...is this a girls sport??

I'm In Love With My Car (this one is good for long flat sections!!)
Words and music by Roger Taylor

The machine of a dream
Such a clean machine
With the pistons a pumpin'
And the hub caps all gleam

When I'm holdin' your wheel
All I hear is your gear
When my hand's on your grease gun
Oh it's like a disease son

I'm in love with my car
Gotta feel for my automobile
Get a grip on my boy racer rollbar
Such a thrill when your radials squeal

Told my girl I'll have to forget her
Rather buy me a new carburetor
So she made tracks sayin'
This is the end now
Cars don't talk back
They're just four wheeled friends now

When I'm holdin your wheel
All I hear is your gear
When I'm cruisin' in overdrive
Don't have to listen to no run of the mill talk jive

I'm in love with my car
Gotta feel for my automobile
I'm in love with my car
String back gloves in my automolove

I'm In Love With My Ride

Music to "I'm In Love With My Car" by Roger Taylor inspired by that hiphop biker 128

The machine of a dream
Such a clean machine
With my pedals a pumpin'
And the chain newly clean

When I'm draftin' your wheel
All I hear is the wind
When my hand's in the drops
Oh it's like a disease man

I'm in love with my ride
Gotta feel for my fine machine
Get a grip and I'm in a full tuck
Such a thrill when your aeros purr

Told my man I'll have to forget him
Rather buy me a new Steelyman
So he made tracks sayin'
This is the end now
Bikes don't talk back
They're just two wheeled friends now

When I'm draftin' your wheel
All I hear is the wind
When I'm cruisin' in high gear
Don't have to listen to no run of the mill talk jive

I'm in love with my ride
Gotta feel for my fine machine
I'm in love with my ride
Velcro back gloves help me hold on tight

Yes tempo changes constantly

Yes to all but heavy metal, and I'm not sure about jive since I don't know what it is.

Sadly, when I'm tired the bike seems to feel a different beat than I think I do. Like Brewer & Shipley said:

"Movin' on down the Tarkio Road
Headed up to Crete, Nebraska
Tryin' my best to set the highway on fire
But my bicycle won't go no faster."
Now that's sweet & soulfulAllisonHayes

It's different everytime I ride, and it changes during each ride. Sometimes it's fast jungle/techno, sometimes it's crushing heavy metal, sometimes it's Bob Marley, and sometimes it's Peter Green or B.B. King singing my woes for me. It seems the blues usually kicks in around the end of the ride...
this is an interesting question...dustin73

fast punk going downhill or hammering on the flats...

reggae or "new-age" swing (i.e. Brian Setzer/Stray Cats, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy) if i'm cruising on flats...

intense, dark classical if i'm going uphill.

Mt. Wilson into LA, once. Same tune. For a good half hour, I was Fausto Coppi, never dropping below 25 mph, soloing to the finish line in the tree lined streets of La Granada, framed with stucco buildings and tile roofs. At other times, either classical music or a good 4-4 beat.

this is a good powerbooster rhythym

Get your motor runnin'
Head out on the highway
Lookin' for adventure
And whatever comes our way
Yeah Darlin' go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space

I like smoke and lightning
Heavy metal thunder
Racin' with the wind
And the feelin' that I'm under
Yeah Darlin' go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space

Like a true nature's child
We were born, born to be wild
We can climb so high
I never wanna die

Born to be wild

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears
And the way the sunlight plays upon her hair
I hear the sound of a gentle word
On the wind that lifts her perfume through the air

I'm pickin' up good vibrations
She's giving me excitations
I'm pickin' up good vibrations
(Oom bop bop good vibrations)
She's giving me excitations

Good good good good vibrations

She's giving me excitations

Good good good good vibrations
(Oom bop bop)
She's giving me excitations

Close my eyes
She's somehow closer now
Softly smile, I know she must be kind
When I look in her eyes
She goes with me to a blossom world

I'm pickin' up good vibrations
She's giving me excitations
I'm pickin' up good vibrations
(Oom bop bop good vibrations)
She's giving me excitations

Good good good good vibrations

Hey Weiwentg & Nick: "Leader of the Pack" for you crit racers?AllisonHayes
May 20, 2002 6:30 PM
LEADER OF THE PACK for all Crit Racers

(This is about Lance and Weiwentg in the early years, before Weiwentg's untimely crash: ah, how things could have been)

For Nick too!!!

By: The Shangri-Las

[spoken]
Is he really going to try to lead?
Well, there he is. Let's ask him.
Lance, is that Weiwentg's jersey you're wearing?
Mm-hmm
Gee, it must be great riding with him
Are you going racing after school today?
Uh-uh
By the way, where'd you meet him?

I met him at the criterium
He turned around and said to me
You get the picture? (yes, we see)
That's when I fell for (the leader of the pack)

Other riders were always putting him down (down, down)
They said he came from the wrong side of town
(whatcha mean when ya say that he came from the wrong side of town?)
They told me he was bad
But I knew he was fast
That's why I fell for (the leader of the pack)

One day my coach said, "Find someone new"
I had to tell Weiwentg that we're through
(whatcha mean when ya say that ya better go find somebody new?)
He stood there and asked me why
But all I could do was cry
I'm sorry I hurt you (the leader of the pack)

[spoken]
He sort of smiled and waved me goodbye
The tears were beginning to show
As he rode away on that rainy night
I begged him to go slow
But whether he heard, I'll never know

Look out! Look out! Look out! Look out!

I felt so helpless, what could I do?
Remembering all the things we'd been through
In school they all stop and stare
I can't hide the tears, but I don't care
I'll never forget him (the leader of the pack)

The leader of the pack - where he's gone
The leader of the pack - he's layin' low
The leader of the pack - he'll get well
The leader of the pack - he's comin back

A great bottle of wine... great company/hot date... a cool jazz band playing in the corner. Just loud enough that you can still appreciate the music and yet have a awesome conversation with a beautiful woman...

Other times, it can be like the building locomotion of a train. Bach's 'Cannon in D' as you crest a hill.

Or depending on how my week is going the theme to Top Gun or Limp Bizkit's 'Rollin'' could be crankin'...

It's funny. My old steel Somec had a bunch of music in its wheels. Pop Goes the Weasel during the uphills. Prokofiev's Third Piano Concerto while blasting through tunnels. Indian tabla drumming while on the flats. My current bike, a Colnago of course, just yells out Puccini.
