How much of your riding do you do alone and with a group? Since I word 330pm to 12mid, I get almost all of my miles by myself. I have about 2k miles in so far and only about 300 have been with other riders, one being an organized century that I did the last 50 miles or so solo.

I ride almost all of my miles, road and dirt solo. Mostly due to the fact that I don't know any other riders in the area. When I look around for group rides in my area they are few and far between, unless I want to drive a while to get to them.

Since I don't really know any other riders I end up doing tours by my self as well. Such is life I guess.

I'm also aparently in a weird zone where I'm too fast for beginner or slow riders and too slow for faster riders (average around 18 mph for 30-40 miles on flat courses).

Last year 80% solo. Most of my riding was done weekday mornings when much of the rest of the world was working. Caught some weekend club rides every other weekend or so. I actually prefer riding alone anyway - unless I can find a riding partner who doesn't want to yammer the whole time. I like the peace and quiet.

One of my riding buddies broke his leg, one is mad because his daughter made a bunch of calls on my daughter's cell phone (why is that my fault? Don't know) and one is remodeling his living room, so it's pretty much been me and the wind this spring. Under ordinary circumstances, I do about half by myself--I enjoy the solitude and the chance NOT to talk.
It depends....rwbadley

During spring/summer I think about 50/50. We have a lot of group rides in Reno. Many local club races. A few centuries.
Many times I will start a ride solo, and meet a rider on the road. If the pace is similar we'll ride a bit.
Road biking in our area has really come on strong the last few years. The roads are filled with riders.
I wish our town would recognize this trend, and respond accordingly.
Fall/winter 90% solo. Everybody else seems to go into hiding.
Until this spring, 90 per cent solo.RoyGBiv

But over the winter I sat down beside somone at the local pub, started shooting the shit with him and found out he's a fanatical cyclist, too. We've been out a couple of times, including a 120-miler a couple of weekends ago. He's a lot younger than me and is licenced to race, so it's a struggle keeping up. I tell him I can be available to tag along for his recovery rides.
It's good to have someone to compare notes with on the road, although I don't mind riding alone. It can be cathartic thinking out loud.

It's really hard to find people to do 250 mile rides with you.

Doug I thought the same thing until I met a guy on the terrible 2. I ride with him quite often. You can find people to ride with over a few hundred miles. Except for this year which is a wash due to back surgery.

100% alone. Not many riders where I am but I guess the LBS have some organized rides but it seems pretty "no one else wanted" to me. Plus, I know they are to fast for me. I enjoys a nice leisurely pace. Keeps me fit and stress free.

Mostly I like to ride alone. If I feel good, I can hammer a bit or find a nice stout hill to hit hard without having to worry about a) ruining someone elses day by pushing them harder than they want or b) riding easy when I feel like going. And, likewise, when I am feeling not so good, I don't have to a) push myself harder than my body needs just to keep up or b) cause someone else to have to ride easy just because I'm not feeling into it.

I do have some friends that like to ride but they don't go too fast; I try to ride with them on days I need to take it easy. Or I ride over the mountain to meet them, ride with them a while, then ride back over the mountain to go home.

I have ridden 7 or 8 centuries, metric anyway, and very much enjoy riding in a pack, especially when a good pace-line forms. The sound of all the other bikes, the wind, the breathing, the speed; there is a certain energy within a group like that. It's almost as if some of each riders energy get pooled and dispersed back into the group. Either that or I just like being able to go 24-28 where I normally hit 18-20.

Hey are all the club riders hiding, or are they simply not obsessed enough to lurk around here all the time ;).

I get in about 80% of my riding on a Saturday, which I usually do w/ the club. In addition a long time friend got interested in riding at about the same time as me, and since we do the same club rides we have logged in appox the number of miles too making up well matched in our abilities. This year, we even moved into the same apt and that makes for easy co-ordination for weekday moring rides too.

No I don't sleep with him. Just drink and ride together and that too not at the same time. ;-)

I do most of my riding with a group. Seems there is always a group ride of all levels, so I can get in a hard ride when i want or a recovery ride, all with other people, which i find more enjoyable most of the time. I realize this isn't the best way to train, but I guess for me, it's more about fun. I do enjoy the occasional long solo ride as well.

Last year I did all my recovery rides with my oldest son. Now that he is getting faster we do TT together. It's a blast having him getting up to my speed. Pretty soon it will be old Pop he rides with for his recovery rides. We don't talk much but we both really look forward to our rides together. Do a few rides with my 10 and 8 yo sons. Their 20" bikes and short cranks sure give them a spinning workout. Occasionally my 13 yo daugher will ride but she overheats really easily, have to be careful with her. I'm looking forward to when they are old enough that we can enter a team race. When I have my oldest 4 riding with me we make quite a parade.
