|K for all you Canadians. Why does OLN suck? The CRTC has this magic idea by having Canadian programming on all the time we don't get influenced as much by watching American programming. Cus dog shows really deserve more credit that Giro let alone the Tour coverage.
Nick (still cranky)

|I e-mailed them again yesterday and haven't gotten any response this time either.
I did mention that if it was a CANCON thing that thay could just hire someone to do a voice over like they do with the strength crap they're always showing.
I think the only cycling coverage that they will have this year is the TDF. I'm glad we'll at least see that but it sucks that we are missing out on soooo much more.
Keep sending them e-mail and being a pain and maybe if enough of us complain........
Ted the cycling deprived Canadian

I've mailed them nasty comments so many times, no response.
Well, atleast once I did politely ask them, but they didn't respond than either.
It truly SUCKS!,
I was looking forward to watching something cycling for once..

|It's all about money...Dog shows are cheap for OLN to buy, the Giro is not. The Grand Tours and World cup races are the Premiere events in cycling and carry with them a huge Cost because of this high profile (sort of like the Super Bowl). Case in point: RAI is charging so much for the broadcasting rights of the Giro that even Cycling Mad countries like Spain are not showing it on TV. Apparently the rest of Europe is pretty po'd about having to pay so much for the "Euro-Giro" (ironic, isn't it). OLN will only show programs that it can make a profit off of. Giro coverage is expensive so advertising time is expensive. Sponsors won't feel like they are getting value in their media buy. Dog shows are so cheap and the ad space is so cheap - Sponsors feel they are getting a deal by buying ad space for these programs. The real emails should go to potential sponsors to get them to see that the cycling demographic is a bunch of 30 something men who like to buy things, and have the disposable income to do so. I for one don't have the disposable income, but they need not know that.
As for OLN's audience relations...No that sucks! You should have heard from them at least once.
If you want to watch OLN USA, buy a sattelite dish and get one of those grey market descramblers...OLN USA for free (sort of)!

|Golf, for many years, got terrible ratings and was still televised. Why? Demographics. No one hit the upper-income demographics like golf. So it isn't entirely ratings. If you can sell hard and well to an audience, there will be a market for your shows. (Especially in the cable era).
The other think to keep in mind is production costs. How much does it cost to televise a dog show? 2 or 3 cameras, static setup, piece of cake.
The logistics of a tour feed are a little different.
