My wife can't stand Bob Roll...Ron B
May 14, 2002 6:48 PM
If it wasn't for his commentary she would actually enjoy watching the Giro with me. She laughs at his pronunciation of words, especially when he tries to say components (she watched gear guide on OLN with me and couldn't stop laughing for 3 or 4 minutes). She basically thinks he's an idiot every time he speaks.

Anybody else have problems with this?

What to do?
i laugh too...thats why he's so great nmishmael

Mars/Venus? I don't know... but Bobke is the best. He makes the coverage. He's been there. Did you know he was Hampsten's teammate when he won the Giro? Check out the pink jersey Italian muttering rider commercial...terrific!

out better when he's writing. They cleaned him up for TV. He tones it down a notch and wears a suit. Gone are the days of mutton chops, wild hair and outrageous comments.

His responses to emails on OLN's website are hilarious.

"Tour De FRANCE". It sounds so strange to me.

One of the things I like about Bobke is that he refuses to be euro-piss-elegant, yet he's done more in the sport than probably 99.7% of us. He shows the kickass side of the sport that belies the goofy costumes, kits and shaved legs. Bobke's an independent individual that defies stereotypes. He seems to be able to pronounce a lot more Italian than I can, too.

Yeah, he doesn't hide the fact that he doesn't care for France too mcuh. Can't say I blame him. He loves Italy and show the highest respect for that country, but It's the tour-day-france otherwise!

I am really enjoying his commentary this year! He IS the man. Love those mumbling commercials! Hilarious!

hate. Personaly I like him. He road and finished the TDF and Giro. He is therefore allowed to pronounce words anyway he wants to. However, pretentious wannabees (myself included)must use correct pronounciation at all times.

Does anyone remember what we had before. Dumb A$$ Adrian Karsten completely clueless, pretending he had a clue. Or better yet hanging out with Pierre Salinger visiting vinyards. Hello there is a bike race going on.

He has a great sense of humor and does not take himself or the sport too seriously. His commercials are hilarious.

Bobke is too cool. Perhaps your wife's Bobke bashing is her subconcious way of trying to deal with her love of the man (in order to protect your feelings)?

Now, on another note...who stole all the "k"s in Paul Sherwin's vocabulary?

he's the reason I watch the tours.

He kinda talks with an okey drawl, but if you listen enough, you can tell he's a well read man.

But I LOVE to watch his hands. I think if you tied them together, he wouldn't be able to speak!! :)
He went from a 'Wavy Gravy ' look-a-like to Richard Nixon! (nm)hrv

Personally I like the guy. May be uses his hands a little too much but he has a lot to offer. Now talk about poor how about the guys that were covering the classics?

I'll take Bobke over David Duffield any day of the year. Seriously I love to watch and listen to him, he's hilarious. He's also well-read and I'll bet he'll make you split your sides if you hang around him. The Giro commercial is the best I've seen in years. My wife watches the Tours with me, and she thinks he's great.
