I was watching Phil Ligget say durin the Giro that 35KM or around 22mph is pedestrian speed! Now i've been training seriously since september despit being sick for 2 months due to a teribble flu, but i still cant average that for 20 mi. Are you guys that fast, or should I give up cycling, am i doig something worng? Thanks for the tips...

those are professional cyclists. people with resting heart rates in the 30s and VO2maxes in the 80s or better. and they all have very nice bikes.
we are recreational cyclists, for the most part, with some amateur racers. we are mortals. most of us are, I would wager, around a 20ish average solo over distance.

you are not that slow... The fact that you are riding is the most important apect of the whole cycling thing anyway.. But in order to help you go faster? There are tons of resources available to help your training. Books, videos and cycling nuts like me... Keep one thing in mind? Pros are called that for a reason, dont aspire to be just like them, aspire to be your own rider..thats it for now grasshopper.

keep on cranking..!

You are not that slow.

As stated above, most people generally run around a 20mph average or slower. It either takes a lot of good genetics or a lot of training to go faster than that.

I'm by far not very fast on a bike compared to a lot of people but I can hold an 18.5 average for 30+ miles with out too much problem and that's not with a lot of training to this point. When I'm in good shape I'm around 20 - 21 mph for the same speed and that's with a lot of work.

The other thing to remember is that if you are riding in a group you can go quite a bit faster. I know when I'm in a big group I can average 2-3 mph faster than I can solo.

as long as you enjoy riding i would not worry about speed...just ride, ride, ride, and ride and again just enjoy the ride and just being outside...remember we are all adults on a kid's toy....ride safe....
