|How critical is matching shoulder width to handlebar width?
It appears that my hbars are 1" wider than me. Would that explain why it seems a little hard or unnatural, if you will, for me to keep the elbows relaxed or slightly bent when on the brake hoods? Other than this concern, other parts of bike fit seem pretty good - I had no show stoppers on a recent long ride. In 4 more weeks I hope to do a double century and would like to get this last bit of tweaking ,if needed, out of the way soon. Thanks for any input.

|Wider is better than too narrow, but you would probally be more comfortable with ones that fit. Best thing to do is to go to a bike shop and try holding some different sizes till you find one that keeps your arms exactly parallel to each other.|
|What do you mean when you say, 1" wider than you? I'll bet that||bill|

|what you are experiencing has more to do with your reach than with the handlebar width (too narrow is uncomfortable; too wide is commodious, if a bit un-aero), although I suppose that too wide also increases your reach to the hoods, which could explain how the reach ends up wrong, I guess.|

|I had my 17 yr old son measure across my shoulder width as best he could. We came up with 16", the hbars are 17" wide. Sorry about the unclarity.
Thanks for the input.
