|What is up with people? Today at work, I got called a fa**** wearing spandex who would rather pedal with a saddle up my a** than do the smart thing and ride. I couldnt help but laugh. Okay... I have a fetish for carbon fiber and fire in the thighs. Sure beats working overtime to fill the tank and choking the life out of the planet. I also had to inform this "person" that a Martec is not a "girly" bike. Anybody else run into this?|

I'm going through the whole high school thing right now.
Wearing anything tight is gay, so is shaving your legs.
When I tell people I rode this much km a weekend they think I'm crazy..
"uhhhh.. why don't you just take the transit or get a ride?!".
The same thing when I told them I bought a Trek 1200 for $1500,
Many people are so ignorant, they think that cycling is only a means of transport,

|Amen to that brother... I'm a senior in high school and I get laughs and weird looks when I tell people I spent over 200 bucks on a bike. Some people just don't get it.|

|I suppose its somewhat universal... the attitudes of non-cyclists, dont get me wrong, not all are malicious though, many people just dont understand, when you say, yah, i rode 70km and then they respond with, "wow, would have been faster to drive then hey?" Or other who are so amazed at the time, money and effort we devote to a sport. There are good, bad, and ignorant, however, at the end of the day, or semester as it may be, we leave in good shape with an activity that we can love and be passionate about and given the shape of the world today, thats quite a lot...

|It's purely futile to try to explain biking to morons. I work at a machine shop so I know what you mean. I am less diplomatic, favoring liberal doses of the "f" word, and references to mommies. It's a survival thing. I can handle that. What's tougher for me is the realization that they're the ones checking out my ass on the way out. The long ride home 'irons out' all. It's good to be alive!

|those who are making the comments are nothing but jealous with envy. look at them. They are either fat butts or those that need their Bud by 5PM. Cycling is a gift. One that lets us be who we are. I say srew 'em all.|

|Its cus we're not in a mainstream sport. Football players wear spandex. But do they get harrassed? Welcome to the North American view of amateur sports. All the pro baseball players make millions a year while most cyclists make nothing. Its complete crap.

|Cycling is so many things to so many different people. I dont usually bother trying to explain, instead, I smile because I know soon, I will be on the road or on a trail and the world will start to make sense again.|

|Plus, in football, those guys in spandex are constantly grabbing each other (and when nobody is looking, specifically aiming for certain "special" regions)! And they think WE'RE gay? Hmmm. Lets see who could last longer in any kind of endurance event...
And baseball, where do I start? They grab themselves and spit a lot (granted, I have gotten fairly adept at clearing my nose while riding via the "Farmer Blow", but that's not when anybody is looking)! There are some decent athletes playing major league baseball. Too bad their considerable talent is being wasted on such a boring sport.
I bet Lance could compete successfully in lots of sports. I'm glad he's sticking to a cool one...

|I'm in 10X better shape than 90% of the population 1/2 my age. I will dance on their graves, wearing my spandex and my shaved legs...... =)|

|I've gotten the comments about the spandex shorts (legs are not shaven) and I've gotten comments about my favorite jerseys (Team Telekom...guess I bring that one on myself), but the comments are always from other guys, women NEVER make any negative comments whatsoever. The thing that always makes me wonder though is...why are these guys looking at my ass anyway ?|

|I agree with you.. i get comments from women though... "oh, you must work out" .. or.. "how do you get legs like that?"
dosent matter to me what i wear, or if i shave or not. I just want to ride.. and as far as the farmers nose clearing? hmm...well today, i missed as a car was passing too close on my left.. bet he wont do that again...
