who have crashed or are injured...

After the fall

I force myself to reconnect now
Fearful, after the fall,
Inconsistent, I climb back on

I am afraid.

I worry?
Am I any good at this?
I put my fear aside?..
And release control
I am now naked, exposed

Always before I was ready,
Fear floods my heart,
I will try.

As I pedaled weak and weary,
Legs all shot, eyesight bleary
Too damn tired, not thinking clearly
As I pedaled, pedaled, pedaled, pedaled,
Pedaled to and fro.

I hit a slick patch upon the pavement,
Landed in a heap - couldn't save it
Hey! The bike's ok, can you believe it!?
As I pedaled, pedaled, pedaled, pedaled,
Pedaled to and fro.

Yes dear, my knees ARE skinned, and kinda bloody,
(And where I hit that bush is very muddy)
And yes, darling, road rash is very cruddy.
Oh, did I tell you that I will be riding
with the guys next Sunday...?

Quoth the spouse, "Nevermore!"

[Allison, your poem rocks]
Both of you rock. nmSpinchick

allison, you just made my day. fear not, I am indeed back on my bicycle!!! caveat: the rear wheel is locked into my friend's trainer - it's spring, and he has a new girlfriend. he does NOT need it at all.
anyway, where's elefantino? haven't heard from him in a while...
Nice....real nice.rtolle

That was pretty damn cool! Hats off (helmets off) to Allison. I'm getting ready to go to bed and that put the cap on my day.

Quick update. This is my second full week of being allowed back on a bike after hernia surgery. It only took 3 weeks to convince the doctor I could do "easy" sports such as riding and swimming. I got 100 miles in my 1st week back...I know its not alot but I'm still a gimp. This last Monday I convinced myself that I was ready to do a 45 miler...it was great, tailwind going out...hellacious headwind coming back, and rolling hills. I averaged 18.9 mph. I ride many of the same routes and time is how I measure my performance...not bad for a gimp. I paid the next day though. I was in severe pain and had to take a vicatin. 2 days off the bike and I was ready to roll again. I rode yesterday and everything was great, I'm riding Saturday at 7am and I can't wait.
