Barrel Adjusters at STI Shifter - do they work?jagiger

I had these barrel adjusters on my bike & I never used them much. Honestly, I wasn't sure if they actually did anything or were there for decoration.

In any event, in my hurry to swap out my Ultegra for D/A I just threw them in the box & off to E-bay they went. I wasn't thinking. My new D/A shifters are great, but should I bother with replacing the barrel adjusters? Where can you get them? Thanks!

Are you talking about the version that attaches to the downtube shifter bosses or just some threaded cable adjusters?

I think these adjusters are useful if you change wheels a lot. Sometimes the rear shifting can be off slightly and a quick twist of the adjuster will fix things right up. The Shimano downtube adjusters only have a few positions but they seem to work great.

What type of frame do you have? When your cable housing comes out of the STI levers, Where are they attached? Is there a guide on the headtube? Most frames either have cable adjusters either already installed on the headtube or they have standard downtube shift bosses. If you have downtube shift bosses, than you need the adjusters that came with with STI levers.
