Ron, I read your post below where you said you were thinking about getting a tandem for you and your wife...I highly suggest it! Last February, 2001, my wife and I bought a Burley Duet, 105 components, on closeout, brand new for $1700...best $$ we've ever spent in our 5 years of marriage! I've been riding since '94, and now ride a Klein Quantum Race with full Dura Ace, Rolf Vector Pro wheels, Easton EC-90 handlebar, USE Alien post, and SLR saddle, and my wife is 5'2"...there is no way she was going to keep up with my on her own road bike. So, we tried a tandem, and both loved it. She swore before that she'd never get into cycling, and now she has her own clipless shoes and everything. She likes it because all she has to do is pedal...we ride on roads I've been on 100 times before, and she's finding stuff I've never seen before. I like it because I can get just as good a workout as on my own, and we regularly do 40-milers. Last Nov 9th, she gave birth to our daughter...2 weeks later, to the day, we rode 20 miles on it...first time back on it in over 7 months for her! Bottom line, go for it...good luck!

Thanks, I enjoyed reading that. Sounds like you are going to need a trailer for the tandem. I will consider it and talk to Cindy about it.

I all ready posted about tandems once today, but I second all that has been said. We are going around Lake Tahoe for the Americas Most Beautiful Bike Ride June 2. Look for a silver Cannondale RT1000 with two 6 footer on board, that will be us

The best way for both of you to get a good workout while riding together is to go with a tandem. You can keep up a good pace and your wife can learn to spin. It's a blast. We both have separate bikes, but there's nothing better than working together on our C'dale RT3000.

Cindy and I are going to go look at tandems this weekend since it is going to rain this weekend.

is that the stoker only gets to see the captain's butt. The opposite is true. Stokers get a much better view of the scenery than single bike riders. Actually, I generally only see a strip of road about 3' wide. My wife, on the other hand, is constantly pointing out pretty scenery and other points of interest for me to glance up at. This is our 26th year of tandeming together.

Congratulations on 26 years of having a co pilot. I think that is great.
You two make a good looking couple. Nice pic and bike.firstrax

Just kidding. But certainly not hard on the eyes, that one.
