Know anything about the Sierra Century?MB1

Miss M keeps getting new travel schedules at work. Looks like there is a good chance we will be in San Jose the first weekend of June.

The Sacramento Wheelmen have a pretty nice website that we have looked at.

We are looking at the 200K. Anyone done the ride.

Any comments about the route, weather, the club, how many riders, is it crowded?

Any other rides to do that weekend that are nicer (and long)?

Thanks
Mark

Don't know about that one.

Here is the schedule: http://www.bbcnet.com/RideCalendar/RideListDate.asp

Not coming out for CCD, huh? It's this weekend. I'm doing it, but at a fun, liesurely pace this time.

You ride through a lot of little gold rush towns in the lower Sierra. Very scenic ride with lots of climbing and descending. Not crowded and not much trafic. Good food too.

The Sequoia Century (on sunday, very close to San Jose) is also a nice ride with redwood forests and scenic coastline. This one's in my backyard.

I'm riding both!
We are thinking about doing both also.MB1

What is the best route to drive from one to the other? We will be in San Jose sometime that Wednesday and will fly out early Monday am.

Here's the MapPoint directions:

There's several ways to get to 680 from SJ - you better check a map. Also, I'd skip steps 6-8 and stay on 680 to 580 East. Drive time is about 2 hours (non-rush hour). Have fun!

It is a nice, well-supported ride in the Sierra foothills. Also, a day later on June 2 is the "America'a Most Beautiful Bike Ride" around Lake Tahoe (73 miles). You can find out about that at www.bikethewest.com.

Agree....this is a nice ride with great support. You will definately enjoy yourself.

I have also completed America's Most Beautiful Ride. Ride length mentioned is correct if you only circle Lake Tahoe but there is a century option that includes an out and back from Tahoe City (as I recall) to Truckee. I would be prepared for cold temps beyond the morning. The weather in Tahoe can be unpredictable.....even in early June snow is possible. That said, it is also a great ride!

Have a good time! I will unfortunately not be able to take in either ride due to a conflict. :^(
