|I am currently riding a 1999 Cannondale CAAD3 that I am looking to replace the frame. I am looking at the new Litespeed Hyperion or a new CAAD 6. Any advice about these two frames or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

|My 2 cents: Solid racing bikes--recently reviewed in Cyclosport (Corsa 01-steel) and Bicycling (Team SC--alloy)--both rags commenting that handling is very confidence inspiring--solid and predictable. Merckx frames were raced by Motorola (LA won the Worlds on one), and currently by Domo, if that means anything.|

|If you're stuck on the LS and Canny.......
Why the CAAD6? Do you really want to get the Cannondale SI BB and crank as well? You'll have to with the CAAD6.
Why not look at the a CAAD5 - same exact frame as 6 with the exception of a standard BB shell. You can get a CAAD5 frame/fork/Campy HS for around $600 to boot....
The Hyperion is just another relabled Asian Al McBike bike - if you are going to choose an Al frame between the two I would opt for the Canny. If you want an LS get a Ti one. Also, last I saw, LS is not selling Al frames by themselves - complete bikes only.

|Another vote for the Merckx Team SC. Great bike for the money, not to mention that you will be riding a somewhat more unique, European, steed.

|If you can build your own bike, and like cannondale, and just want the frameset--look around the internet and get yourself a CAAD 5 for about $500 or $600. That's what I did, and have the rest of the money to spend on new wheels, new bar and stem, etc.
I happen to like Cannondale--superlight, and made in the US by a big company that does a lot of R&D. Maybe Cannondale doesn't have the exotic allure of a Merckx, but it's the real deal: a lightweight, inexpensive race machine! In my mind the xpensive colnagos and lightspeeds aren't worth the extra money, not by any practical measure.

|I agree with you Mr. Good, that Cannondale puts out a great race machine that can be had for about $600 (CAAD5, check Velonews ad). Even Super Mario Cipollini said something to the effect that Cannondale is the best bike.
That being said, our original poster wants to spend $1500 on the frame. So DadGumit, let's all pitch in, do our civic duty, help the economy, and help him/her spend every last nickel of that money on a bike frame, rent be darned! :-)
BTW, any Merckx is my suggestion--and if it turns out that you followed my suggestion but don't like the Merckx, don't throw it out, send it to me so I can eat my words....

|Sounds to me like you are talking about $1500 for an entire bike, not just a frame. If so, those new Litespeed Alum/Carbon bikes appear to be top quality and a great value; they're really beautiful in the detail of craftsmanship. A picture does not due the bike justice (the same can be said for nearly any bike I suppose).|

|The new AL Litespeeds go for about $2300 for the complete bike, so he's gonna be a little short. They are nice though, but VERY stiff. Personally, I would go for the Antares for the Campy.|

|Thanks for the input - I am widening my search and increasing my price limit for a frame / fork to $1800. Does this change anyone's answer?|| |
