|I bumped into a guy from charlotteville who was very kind and lent me a pump as I was stranded at the side of the road. I don't remember his name, but he wore a loughborough students top and was riding a compact geoffrey butler frame.
You are a member at charlotteville aren't you?, if you know who I'm talking about then thank him from me.

|Yeah I am, but don't recognise the picture.
Dunno who that was (we have about 200 members now I think) but I'll put a note on our site - or you can (www.charlotteville.co.uk - visitors book).
Where/when was this?
Good to know that people still stop to help out. I did that the other day to a guy on a MTB who was on the pavement with a 40lb bike upside-down, obviously trying to get the chain back on. All I got was a stroppy "I can manage". Takes all sorts.

|It's there on the site.
I was on the train with two Pheonix riders coming back from a ride to Portsmouth a couple of weekend ago - a small fit looking guy with a Lightspeed compact, and what I assume was his wife/girlfriend - tall blonde with a Bianchi Evo with Kyseriums - know them?

|That would be Dave and Abi you saw,I was on that ride but didn't hang around for coffee, cake etc by the sea as I had to be back in London early. If I hadn't we'd actually have met. I'm a recent and not particularly active member of phoenix, but that was an excellent ride, 140km up and down the north and south downs a few times. I coveted dave's bike a fair bit on that day, lovely isn't it?.|

|Small world. Yeah, they were nice bikes. I was with Steve76 who was on his Ciocc, which is really nice - there was a bit of "bike bum-sniffig" going on in the guard's van that afternoon! I wanted to get a lift of the 'Speed, but couldn't - pity. I did notice that Abi had her saddle at a strange angle - men v woman I suppose.
That is indeed a nice ride - which way did you go - we took in Duncton Beacon, which was a bit of a struggle after a couple of sherberts the night before, I can tell you...(actually, always is anyway, but that's my excuse etc).
MJ and I are going the Downs Link to Brighton on CX bikes this coming Sat if you fancy it (not racing it - a MTB would be equally fine)?

|We started at epsom, did box hill, leith hill, ranmore common, then whatever other inclines dave could find before heading over to the south downs. Is duncton beacon a steep haul up a reasonably wide road over the south downs west of brighton?, if so we went up that one too, then I just followed the wheel in front until Devil's dyke, when I put my last bit of energy into the climb. All good fun.
I'd love to do the thing on Saturday, but don't own a cross bike or mtb. It's hell of the north downs on Sunday isn't it?, I may be able to borrow a machine for that. We should definitely get out for a ride sometime though.
