(Names changed so their intelligence won't be discovered.)

Dumb: "What about that pipe bomber? Some kid from Wisconsin riding around the country. Had a trunk full of the stuff."

Dumber: "What an idiot!"

Dumb: "You know, a bike would make a perfect pipe bomb."

Dumber: "Oh man, can you imagine a bunch of terrorists on bikes storming Manhattan."

Dumb: "Yeah, pretty scary thought."

Dumber: "How would you hide a pipe bomb on a bike?"

Allison,
Your right these folks aren't the brightest bulbs on the tree, but I think I know what they were thinking.

Pipe bombs are plumbers pipes filled with gunpowder. Bikes frames are AL/titanium/steel whatever pipes welded together. Your office conspiracy theorist jumped to the conclusion that if you filled a bike frame gunpowder it would make a great pipe bomb. Questionable conclusion. I think you can eliminate them as suspects in the Iowa stuff.
It is getting harder to get around DC by bike lately.MB1

Security guards around the Capital are starting to stop cyclists from using some of the roads near Federal buildings. You hate to have your routes taken away even though you can understand why.

Not all that funny really. I wonder if it is the same in NYC?

the guy they picked up lived about 20 miles from me and five doors down from my cousin. She talked to him on several occasions.
Wow...I watched his fathers interview on the news last night.Kristin

His first statement was, "My son is not dangerous."

"Yeah," I thought, "I'm sure he's not dangerous at all." I bet the armless lady in Iowa agrees too. What planet do these people come from???

I forget where it was, but a few years ago, somewhere in the Middle East, the bicycle leaning against a wall was the inconspicuous pipe bomb of choice. Pack the tubes with whatever explosive you had, ride it through the checkpoints if there were any, lock it in a rack and stroll away. It could detonate on a timer or by remote control when it would do the most damage.
