Why is he so high on the UCI ranking but never seen in any of the major tours? I remember he was even #1 or 2 at one time.

He is a "Classics" rider. More concerned with the one day world cup races. Super tough rider always in there at the end of the hard one day races

i think because he's such a good one day rider. he seems to be up there and stays competitive all year. of course, he doesn't burn his legs out in the big tours.
He's riding the Giro this yearspeedisgood

can't remember if he did it last year. I've read that he is suppose to be one of the clean ones, subsequently he only does well in one-day and short stage races. He has claimed that since he doesn't use "recovery products" like alot of other riders that he falls apart by the third week of a Grand Tour and that's why his GT performances haven't lived up to his one-day and short stage race results.
