OK, there are 5,280 feet in a mile (example: 100 miles x 5,280 feet = 528,000 feet.)

60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes in an hour, 3600 seconds in an hour. (example: 5 hours, 11 minutes, 30 seconds = 18,690 seconds.

528,000 divided by 18,690 = 28.250 feet per second

28.250 fps x 3600 sec. per hr.= 101,700 feet per hour divided by 5,280 feet = 19.26 mph avg.
