|I just finished a VERY hilly century today and had strong leg cramps from about mile 55 to mile 80. We had trained for this ride (on hills) most of the Winter and Spring. Needless to say, this problem cost me buckets of time. Any suggestions on how to avoid or remedy this dilemma? Thanks.|

|Bananas, water and sports drinks. Could have been a combination of dehydration and lack of potasium. At least thats what I've been told. (It is a lot warmer now, too.)|

|I have the same problem and it's ruined many a long ride/race - often at far below 80 miles. I've tried just about every remedy short of prescription drugs - bananas, potasium pills, salted water, sports drinks, etc. None of these remedies has worked very effectively so let me know if you find something. In fact, I've wound up squirming on the floor after hard rides/races.
If you do get a cramp, squeeze it hard for about 10 seconds or so for some temporary relief. You should be able to do this on the bike.

|try calcium/magnesium supplements as well as potassium, make sure you apply sun block, sunburn causes the blood to try to cool the skin instead of powering muscles|| |
