|Anyone think Simoni can beat Lance?||BAi9302010|

|A month or two ago, Professional Cycling (magazine) quoted Simoni as saying that he could drop Lance. Anyone think he has a chance at winning the Tour?|

|I just hope he challenges Lance. He's refashioned himself after Lance somewhat, so it could be interesting. Beat Lance? No way. Simoni is a good climber but no one beats Lance in the mountains. In the end, Lance only has to stay close, then make Simoni cry in the time trials. Game over.|

|he can beat Lance, just like a handful of other pros. What Lance has done perfectly for the last 3 years is to be at his absolute peak for the tour. But if he misses it due to any number of variables, he's beatable. I doubt an absolutely on form Simoni could beat an absolutely on form Armstong in the GC of a grand tour, but he could probably best him here or there in the mountains. I would say the latter goes for a few other riders as well, maybe Casagrande. And I still don't think Armstrong has beat a 100% tip-top Ullrich (although he was close last year and got soundly trounced) and it looks like he won't have to again this year. And I can't imagine Casagrande or Simoni will have all that much left in the tank after giving 100% at the Giro. With Casero and Ullrich injured, Simoni, Casagrande, Garzelli doing the Giro, Moureau and Beloki showing how mentally fragile they are last year, it's looking like Armstrongs competition will be a little thin for the tour this year. But there's still a couple months left for a good race to develop.|

|That's the compelling thing about stage races, you never know what's going to happen. There could be a crash that takes Lance out of the race, he could get sick or he could show up off form (very unlikely).
If you are talking peak condition for each rider, I don't think Simoni has a chance against Lance.

|there's noone to beat Lance at TT to win the tour and USPS wouldn't let anyone gap on flats. Does Simoni have a chance? probably, the tour is long anything can happen.
However I'll bet the guy who wins mnt TT will win tour.

|Simoni is an unbelievable descender and a good climber, a good conbination, but I don't think he can beat Lance.|

|If Simoni has those guys in neon pink shirts form last years Giro and his nephew there to lean out in front of Lance, then he has a good chance.

|lance trains only for Tour and his preparation is perfection. Simoni will crack under the pressure of Lance. Climb with him some...maybe. Stay with him all the time...not a chance. Lance will then crush him in the TT.|

|Armstrong is amazing, but Simoni has worked very hard the last few years, and anything can happen.
I can't wait, its going to be very entertaining.

|No. I don't think anyone can, barring a crash, illness or such. He is the best cyclist for the Tour. He trains for it and knows what it takes to win. But then so does every other cyclist and team in cycling today!! I'm sorry, but can anyone name me a rider today that has the ability to win the Tour who does not train only for it!!!
The day of riding and winning every race or even being in contention is long past. Every team knows what its strength and weakness is and builds or works around that. It's all about the dollar, lira, frank, duesmark, etc, etc. Give them the photo at the end or lots of time in a break away.
