donating an old bikeclyderider

I have an old (at least 25 years)10 speed peugot. Its banged up a little, but the frame is intact and can still be ridden. I hate to throw it out. Does anyone know of any charities on Long Island that would be interested in getting the bike back in shape to give to an underprivileged kid?

I know that there are charities that send bikes to third-world countries to be refurbished and used by people to travel to work. I can't think of the name(s), but they were briefly mentioned in an issue of Bicycling. I'll look for it when I get home tonight. A web search may also turn up some info. Good luck!

I buy commuters at Salvation army or Volunteers of America. Of course they sell the bikes and use the money to support their programs, which isn't which isn't the same as giving it directly to someone in need.
