Wouldn't you like to ring those peoples necks that break glass on the bike trails?

I swear if I hit the lottery, I'm going to do a Forrest Gump (when he mowed the football field) and buy a street sweeper and daily drive it all over the county cleaning off all the glass. A little self serving, but a fun sort of eccentric, too.

It's pretty bad around here, and it's a shame, too, as we have otherwise fantastic roads and bike lanes all over the city and county.

Hard to say. Let's see, he over came a crippling condition, was a college football hero, saved lives in Viet Nam, made a fortune, had a child, world champion table tennis (and developed good relations with China at the same time), witnessed several assasinations and political events, helped the civil rights movement, ran across the country several times, was invited to the White House several times, mowed the high school football field... I lost track.

I am riding in to work this morning and head over my second bridge of the day: Frederick Douglass (South Capitol St) over the Anacostia River in D.C. Woman on a loaded touring bike in front of me as we ascend on the southside sidewalk, get almost to bridge center, she slows, pulls off. I'm giving her plenty of room so no problem. She pulls out a dust pan and wisk broom and starts sweeping up glass. Second time I have seen her do this. What can I say: If I wasn't already married I'd ask her.
are you the guy riding last Vitus?cyclopathic

We have been going out and riding five miles together every other night. She is trying to build up to 25 miles before July. I am not pushing her, and she seems to enjoy it. We have a bike trail out behind our house that goes to Busse Woods. She isn't ready to make the Busse Woods loop yet, so we just head out 2.5 and back 2.5. It was a good purchase, and it got her off the couch. She says she has lost some weight, but I can't tell. She just needs to keep heading in that direction regardless.

Recycling day pisses me off...biknben

I've got no problem with the act of recycling.

The collectors unload the recycling bin into the truck and then turn the bin upside down and put it by the curb. Anything that's left in the bin (broken pieces or stuf stuck to the bottum) ends up on the road.

Leaves a pile of glass at every driveway. Then people give me a hard time because I'm riding out in the lane.

Sacramento Bike Hikers bought a sweeper for the American River Trail back in the 70's.
They don't use it enough to keep it perfect, but I have never flatted on glass. Thorns, sharp rocks, yes, but not glass.
not just on bike trails...litter everywhere (n m)ColnagoFE

Yes! Why are there so many absent minded these days?Kristin

I have these neighbors...when ever they're out of town on trash day--this is appearantly quite often--they put their trash out early. And they don't bother to use garbage cans either. They just throw the bags out on the street. By the time the squirrels and crows are done with it, there is litter everywhere. Drives me nuts.

2 Garbage cans at Wal*mar...$16.75
Rental on one child to take out trash & return empty cans to garage...$10
A clean block with happy neighbors and a wealthy kid...priceless

Out in Colorado it's because the cowboys can't get the beer bottle out the pickup window and make the ditch.
