I was wondering if anyone knows of any place to rent a road bike in Paris. I know that there are many places to rent MTB and city bikes, but I have not been able to get any good information regarding road bike rentals. I will be going in June of 2003. Thanks for any help.

at the bahnhoffstrasse in zurich between 8am and 8pm you can roll up with photo id and lay down a 20 swiss franc deposit and usually have a choice of new well serviced ok specced road and mtb bikes with locks.

ride all day, around the lake, thru old parts of town, to some out of town spots or wherever you want. if you fail to bring you bike that day you dont have to fear for your life or escape to the border as all you lose is your deposit. if brought back before 8pm your bike and ride for the day are indeed free.

result...great for tourists, more commuters use the train, the city is very cyclist aware and bike theft is so low it makes a new yorker drool. at most station's 50% of the personally owned bikes were never chained.

and yes they have hundreds of bikes in all sizes. for a summer i spent there i was never without a bike as they always had some comming in or going out.

an example of a little tax payer's money being put to great use. it just makes so much sense but sadly would be a miracle for something like that to happen stateside. don't know about paris but if you could ride over the alps from zurich.....;-)

many international carriers do not charge for bikes, box is free from LBS.
