....and then my pedal fell off!riney

Riding along this morning and came to a stop at a light. Clipped back in to get going and my left foot felt loose. I thought maybe my cleat screws backed out so I tried to kick out and what do ya know...the whole pedal body slid off the spindle.

I've never had this happen in over ten years of using LOOK pedals (these are 356's about 3 yrs old). I was able to screw it back on tight enough to limp home but it did put a damper on the day.

Anyone had this experience? I am about fed up with creaking cleats anyway and it seems like a good time to change brands. Shimano, Speedplay, Time, etc...any recs.

Have a great weekend

Happened to me on some cheap Wellgo SPD pedals, but I think it was the right pedal. Fortunately, I was able to snug things up and limp to my LBS, where they loaned me the appropriate tools.

I've never had it happen on another pedal (I replaced the Wellgos with Trek/Icon SPDs, and I run Ultegra SPDs on my other bike)--I think it's just one of Those Random Things...

A friend of mine had his 356's come apart after about 3000 miles. Sounds like the exact same thing that happened to you.

I don't hear much about Time on this board though. Most people recommend Speedplay, but I have no experience w/ them. I went from clips and straps to my Time pedals in the early 90s (92?). Actually bought them from Performance! You won't catch Perf or Nash selling Time road pedals anymore.

Anyway, love my Times for training, racing.
