|Last weekend I did the 75mi Top Hat Classic, which was a ton of fun (even if i missed my goal time by an hour... oh well, thats what next year is for). But I noticed something: all the rest of the little guys (<150lb) and I got our arses whipped on the climbs. WHY? Simple physics says that we should rip up the climbs, and be slower on the flats (inertia, and all that). But no, 230lb riders would fly past my sorry butt on the climbs.

|And drop them on the climbs, the longer ones that is.
These guys are probably just powering up those little rises with their big muscles from winter, but remember, "As endurance goes up, strength goes down." Or translated, they'll get tired and have to slack off before you do. A lighter guy with strong legs has less to lift.
Once you get stronger, these 230 lb riders are history. They may charge up the bottoms of the hills, but you'll drop them just before the tops.
The season is just beginning.

|I really like that story. I'm going to try to remember it every time I get whopped up a hill buy some guy with less meat on that a butcher's pencil for the next 5 months of the season...|

|There aren't a whole lot of flat spots on that ride until you get to Danville/San Ramon Valley/Foothill Blvd. I've grown to hate Reliez Valley/Reliez Station Road. In any case, I was up in Chico riding in the rain last weekend. The big guys were whooping your butt, you say? I'm thinking it's a training thing...|

|I'm short AND stocky, so I get dropped all the time on climbs. But since I'm the same weight as a lot of taller guys - and a LOT more aero - I kick some of their butts on the other side.
