What's the difference between litespeed and Eddie merckx? I saw the Majestic model saturday and it said it was made by litespeed.

I e-mail litespeed, but they won't send me anything back, so why should I buy a classic if eddie merckx bike will ride just as good.

Thanks,

Emory

PS. One response will be enough, so don't beat the issue on me.

Well, I'm not lazywriter, but there are multiple Litespeed, and Merckx, riders in the forum.

One difference is the geometry. You can get full specs for the Classic off the Litespeed site, and I am not sure about Merckx stats. Last I shopped, the Merckx had a slightly slacker STA and longer TT (a la Lemond) so you may want to double check that.

I may need to drop this thread. Found old issue on 20th of april about litespeed and merckx bikes. Don't want to scratch old scars.

Mainly wanted to know if Merckx would ride harsher or same as a litespeed. If I purchase highend ti I'm looking at spectrum to get a better fit.

I need 72.5 degree seattube with 580 top tube. The merlin my lbs wants to sell me just doesn't fit me right. He doesn't want to get me a custom bike either because their rep said to keep customers from requesting custom because of the time it takes to build one. Got this info from the shop who had the Merckx and Merlins (Tom kelloggs place was 1 mile down the road).

Just trying to get some better options because litespeed welds for different companies (merlin, spectrum, Malacu, Merckx, and probably some other companies). I guess they just all have different geometery.

I don't understand why some of the low brands get 5 year warrenty.

Thanks,

Emory

The Majestic is spec'ed by Eddy Merckx and then built by Litespeed. It is a lower end frame and does not have much in the way of tube shaping compared to the higher end Merckx Ti frames of old (and compared to most of the current LS models themselves).

The Merckx geometery uses slack seat tubes and short top tubes. In order to make a direct comparison to the Classic, it is necessary to check the specific size you are interested in.

My guess, based on the tube sizes, is that the Majestic will ride very similar to the Classic (maybe a smig less bottom bracket stiffness). Unless you are a heavy hammerhead type, it's hard to go wrong.
