|Did they cancel Carter Lake race?||Jefferson|
Apr 21, 2002 7:46 AM
|I left my home at 4:45 am to drive the 2 1/2 hours to carter lake. I decided to go for it despite the weather forecast. I made it to Cheyenne Wyoming only to hit a Interstae covered in solid ice. It was way to nasty to continue to the race. I turned around and came back home. What was the weather like for the race? Did they cancel the race?|
|Rain, shine, snow or ice!||Pack Meat|

|The race went on. You can check americancycling.org for results. Sounds like you were doing one of the morning races. The conditions in the morning were absolutely hellish. It was raining with the temp at 35 degs. Racers were coming in with a thick layer of ice on their helmets and glasses. These people were soaked to the bone, I'm really surprised that nobody got hypothermia. Anybody that finished under these conditions are huge studs.
The afternoon races looked to be starting the same way. I raced 3s. The ride to the start line was enough to get me very cold and wet. One the race got underway the rain stopped and the roads actually began to dry. It was still cold but with no rain it was easily tolerable. The hummingbirds prevaled in the 3s, I, not surprisingly, finished as pack meat. Looks like Moniger took the pros.
Looks like you made the right choice. Normally I would give anybody crap for missing a race because of the weather but not here.
