Pulling out of Looks Help!(7 posts)

Pulling out of Looks Help!Largo
Apr 19, 2002 5:40 PM
OK, i posted this earlier, but nothing solved.
Happened again today, seated, going up hill, feet well aligned, and on the pull, my left cleat pops up.
PP296, 1 year old, new cleats (red arc)retention maxed, screws holding on the cleat tight. No cracks in pedal or cleat, new Sidi shoes.
I am baffled.
This was not even a ver hard sprint, just a hard seated hill pull.
Anyone have any theorys?
I have tried replicating this off the bike, and i can't get it to pull up and out.
Thanks.
Bad pedal, perhaps?look271

I've only ever pull out of a Look pedal 1x, and that was in a spin class with the tension maxed. Broke the pedal. I suspect that you may have a faulty pedal.

Use the correct adaptors for the shoes?

Thanks for the responces.
Pedals seem fine, ripped them down and checked them out.
Ian, this happened with my old shoes as well, and yup, the right adaptors.
This has me baffled.
Its always the left pedal.
Maybe i need to buck out for some new pedals?
These are only a year old.
Later.

is the front of the cleat worn? i always put my left foot down when i stop and found the front of the cleat wore down quickly.
when this happens the cleat pulls out of the pedal very easily.
i have a feeling that the left pedal could be helping the problem. there is slight movement (half milimeter)in the spring thing before the spring tension starts working. this could also be causing wear in front of the cleat.
doesn't happen on the left pedal. faulty pedal??? what do you think??

sorry if this doesn't make perfect sense, i'm just back from a tough ride and by brain hasn't started working yet

Well, this obviously shouldn't happen with your pedals Largo, or yours Mike.

Here are your options;

If you bought them from a local shop or authorized US retailer, you get a 3 year warranty. Take them to your local shop or contact Veltec Sports. They can be sent back and checked for warranty. Veltec has clamped down as of late and you will have to show proof of purchase for all warranty claims.

If you bought them grey market (totalcycling) you are out of luck, you don't get a US warranty. I suppose you could try Look in France, but the phone bill alone would probably not make it worthwhile. Go to your LBS and buy a new pair.

Good luck.

I have the old Look PP247's, have the tension release cranked up to the highest setting and I have never pulled out of them. I've heard that Look is good about warranty. You might contact them just for the heck of it. Although I've seen pro's pull out of the pedals while in sprints. I've also seen them go down in crashes and they are still atttached to their bikes. I avoid adapter plates, don't know if your Sedis have them.
