Shimano Drivetrain Popping? Question(3 posts)

Shimano Drivetrain Popping? Questiongregdogg62

I am having a problem with my Dura Ace Drivetrain. Every so often as I am riding I hear and feel a pop. Thats the best way I can describe it. It seems to be originating from the front chainrings, cranks, bottom bracket area. It happens most often after I have been coasting, and I start pedaling again. It happens both with soft pedaling or harder efforts. Any suggestions on what it might be? It is driving me nuts.

I have 105 splined cranks/bottom bracket and it seems to be popping/creaking in the same situation; I'll re-grease the contact spined area, if it don't go away, I'll stick some silicone tape (plumming tape) as suggested in Bicycling...

Oh well. Maybe it's just a crappy bb unit.

Sounds like one of the pauls in the hub body isn't engaging properly. This same thing happened to me. How old is your drive train?
