Carter Lake Race....SNOW?Jefferson

I am making the Carter Lake Road Race tomorrow my very first road race. The foreast is for mid 30's and snow. Problem is that I live 2 1/2 hours away. I am pre-registered but I hate to drive all the way to find out it has been cancelled just to drive back home. I might chalk up the $20 as a loss and stay home. Why make my first road race a miserable experience? Or would it be an EPIC?

Since you will be racing in the morning it may be pretty cold, but snow accumulation on the roads will be pretty unlikely. Of course the forecast is for snow to move in tonight and tomorrow morning, but we'll see how much precipitation we actually get. Right now they are saying only 1" accumulation on grassy areas.

Carter Lake is a great road race and not to be missed. Scheduled in April it seems to always attract bad weather, but runs rain, snow or shine. Warning, if the roads are wet tomorrow the fast bumpy downhill (50mph +) from the dam will be pretty sketchy. My advice, when you wake up in the morning, if there is accumulation on the roads, bag it, if not and the roads are drying or only slightly damp, do the race.
didn't they cancel last year? or maybe that was the year before.ColnagoFE

Last year was beautiful and sunny. 2000 was raining and sleeting but the race went on. Personally I go off at noon and I'm betting the roads will be decent by then. But if the roads are slick I'll skip it - no sense in risking injury with the Tour of the Gila in less than 2 weeks.

Weld CO RR last year, they resche'd because of a lot of snow. They also had to reschedule the Horgan hill climb. Carter lake was frikkin hot last year.

Zed - make sure your front der. is adjusted properly. Last year four Vit Cot guys dropped their chains moving up to the climb. It was almost like they were sabotaged, not that I would know anything about that.
