I'm replacing my Ultegra STI levers with Dura Ace. I thought this would be real straight forward so when I ripped off the Ultegra I wasn't paying too much attention.
Anyway, I went to LBS to get black cables to replace the silver ones from Shimano (I like the look). They gave me the cables & ferreuls, however the metal ones don't fit into the Ultegra brake mount. Are there different fittings or aren't they required? The cable doesn't fit very snugly, as it seems a little loose. What do you think? Thanks!
not required, the brake piece itself acts as a ferrule (nm)str8dum1

Shifter cable and brake cable housing are different. The cable SHOULD have a ferrule on the end, I've seen broken cables at the shifter on ones that didn't. Shifter housing comes in 2 Diameters, 4mm and 5mm, I use 4mm and with the correct ferrules they fit very snug.
