|What's the matter with me???||CRM|

|About three weeks ago, I was in the best condition ever for this time of year. I road through the winter, which I didn't used to do. For the last few weeks, though, I've felt terrible on every ride. My heart rate is through the roof and even my legs feel week. I don't know what happened. It's not over-training, I know that. I road a few times a week but I wasn't over-doing it.
I was sick for a day or two about the time it started. I had a fever and I felt tired. I'm not sure that I'm over it yet but most of the time, I feel fine. I think my body temperature might be a little higher than usual, though, and I feel warm a lot. But the drop-off in my fitness is so dramatic that I think something has to be wrong.
Has this ever happened to anyone else? Some people have suggested that I might be fighting off a virus or an infection. I think I'm going to see a doctor (something I rarely have to do). If anyone has any insight into this problem, I'd greatly appreciate it.

|The first thing that comes to my mind might be: Mono|

|I had mono before. It was horrible. This is nothing like it. I suppose it could be a very, very low-grade mono (if there is such a thing). I'm going to see a doctor to find out for sure.

|I think the mono theory is a sound one.
I also think it could be a toxic exposure of some sort. I've heard of people with carbon monoxide problems at home or mold issues at work gettin symptoms like this.
Yes, go see a doctor. Hell, see a few doctors.

|DO you have problems going to sleep at night? Is it hard to get to your target heart rate? Feel listless? Slugglish? If you rode through the winter hard you might have already peaked for the season too early. try some time off of the bike and/or easier long rides. cut out the intervals for a bit and get some good sleep. sounds like your immune system might be out of whack.|

|I really don't think it's overtraining, but I do fit some of the criteria you mentioned. I have not slept well recently, although I think that is mostly due to my increased body temperature. I feel hot a lot.
I think some time off the bike is a good idea one way or the other. I think I've gotta see a doctor, too, though.
Thanks for the insight.

|It's easier if you track your resting heartrate or know roughly what it usually is. What you do is when you wake up in the morning stay lying down in bed and take your heartrate. Then stand up. If it goes up more than 12 or so beats and stays there for a minute or two you definitely could have pushed it a little. See Tim Noakes "Lore of Running" for a more complete description of the test and more than you'll ever want to know about the physiology involved.
The only thing is the part about feeling hot doesn't fit. One of your doc visits might want to be an endocrinologist if nobody else hits it. Thyroids and the other weird glands can do strange stuff when they get cranky.
