|I don't know who the cyclist was but here's the story from the local paper:
Cyclist dies in collision with a Jeep on Tollhouse Road
A 33-year-old bicyclist was killed Sunday after he collided with a Jeep in north Fresno County, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The Fresno man was riding his bicycle west on Tollhouse Road east of the town of Tollhouse about 12:50 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a right-hand curve, the CHP said. The bicyclist's name had not been made public by late Sunday.
The bicyclist, traveling about 30 mph downhill, crossed the center line and into the path of a 1962 Jeep, the CHP said.
The Jeep, driven by 59-year-old James Wood of Sanger, hit the bicycle head-on. The Jeep had been traveling east on Tollhouse at less than 30 mph.
The man was thrown from his bicycle and suffered fatal injuries.
Tollhouse road is a lightly travelled foothill/mountain road frequented by local riders, and is part of the Climb to Kaiser course.
Be careful out there, folks.

|This is the first I've heard of it, as I didn't catch the local news last night. My condolences go out the the family and friends of the man killed. I only hope it was nobody I knew. I'm going to check with the local bike shops to see if anyone knows who it was. Tollhouse Road is a very popular climb of about seven miles of nonstop sweat that, at one time, had some of the steepest sections of paved highway in California. That combined with the hairpin turns makes for some pretty hairy descents. I've ridden that same road many times myself and come close a time or two. I think I'll go a little slower next time.

|For those that have not heard local cyclist, Andrei Kleist was involved in a
cycling related accident in the Tollhouse area on Saturday afternoon. He did not survive the accident. Andrei was 33 this year.
I have known Andrei for almost 20 years; he started racing just prior to me.
He was one of the best junior racers in California in the late '80's. Most
everyone in our area knows and has ridden with his father, Frank Kleist. I
hope to be in half the shape as Frank when I am 70+ years young!
I do not have any details of the accident and am sure that there will be
services for Andrei this week. If these services are to be open to the
publc, I will pass the details along.
Thoughts and prayers to the Kleist family.

When I think of all the races I've been to with you and Andrei and Dave, and to think that he is gone, just breaks my heart.
Drop me an email pleae, email@example.com. I'll try and go down to his service.
Be careful folks.

|55 year old male riding with a cycling team on a training ride, crossed center line on a two lane road while descending and hit a vehicle head-on. I'm not sure of all the facts, but some say he was swerving to miss a water bottle that had popped out of another riders cage.
I've found also that it only take a second of diversion to miscalculate a foot or so to put you in harms way. Years and years of riding, and thousand upon thousands of miles, but all it takes is one little slight error.
My heart goes out to the cyclist family. Let us all be careful out there...
